چکیده

Communications to the Editor patients leads us to believe that percutaneous catheter fragmentation and dispersion ofthe thrombus using conventional cardiac catheters is important in the emergency management of patients who have collapsed or are seriously compromised because of a massive pulmonary embolus. While catheter pulmonary embolectomy by experienced operators undoubtedly has saved lives, clinicians in hospitals without angiographic equipment but with access to x-ray screening facilities should still consider attempting percutaneous catheter fragmentation and dispersion in such patients.

“Cat Scratch Colon” and Cecal Barotrauma perforation during colonoscopy using CO2 insufflation

Cecal perforation due to barotrauma is an increasingly recognized complication of colonoscopy when using room air for insufflation. CO2 is increasingly being utilized for insufflation due to more rapid absorption compared to ambient air and results in reduced post-procedural pain and flatulence. Use of CO2 is thought to protect against barotrauma injury, and use of CO2 during endoscopy has not ...

Extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal and low-frequency positive-pressure ventilation. Improvement in arterial oxygenation with reduction of risk of pulmonary barotrauma in patients with adult respiratory distress syndrome.

Mortality of the adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains high and could be increased by pulmonary barotrauma induced by positive-pressure mechanical ventilation. Extracorporeal CO2 removal combined with low-frequency positive-pressure ventilation (ECCO2R-LFPPV) has been proposed to reduce lung injury while supporting respiratory failure. Use of this technique in 23 patients resulted ...

Pulmonary interstitial emphysema in an adult with metastatic choriocarcinoma

Although typically seen in neonates, barotrauma is a well-established complication of mechanical ventilation in other populations as well, particularly associated with the use of high peak pressures and continuous positive airway pressure. Complications range from subpleural bleb development to life-threatening pneumothorax. We report a case of barotrauma in an adult that initially presented as...
